More Coulter Dirt

I mentioned the Ann Coulter plagiarism charges here. They seem to be getting some mainstream traction here - in a conservative rag, no less! The allegations include pointing out passages that she seems to have lifted verbatim or almost verbatim from other publications with no attribution whatsoever. Read the piece.

Delicious, isn't it?

More of your unhealthy obsession.

How much would you like to bet that there will be no legal action against her for these instances?

I think obsession might be a bit too strong a word. You might make a better argument, for example, that I am obsessed with the school board politics in my neighborhoos - I post about tht far more often than I do about Coulter. Coulter I just strongly dislike, though I might point out how odd it is that you are always rushing to her defense. Why do you care?

Hey, listen, whether these instances are actionable or not, this article is the first one I've seen where Coulter is asked for a statement and chooses not to comment. If it shuts her up, I'm happy.

I care because as I've said before, I suspect that you, subconsciously or otherwise, attack her for her politics rather than her turn of phrase.

I suggest you read the review here: http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=9943

...and see how ANY conservative author is attacked, regardless of the content of his works.

The fact that the instances are not actionable prove to me that people are crying wolf, and pathetically scrambling to find ANY way to discredit her.

And as I have said before, that is simply untrue. There are many other conservative pundits out there, and I rarely pay attention to them on my blog. I don't generally attack anyone simply for their politics - it's just not my style. Coulter, however, expresses her politics in a manner that is so lacking in humanity that I feel compelled to follow and report on her rantings. I'm sure that's her point when she persistently goes over the line, but I still find myself unable to resist pointing out her disgusting ravings - even if she loves and craves the attention.

Face it, Jak. She's vile.

Jak, plagiarism is not a crime.

'Jak, plagiarism is not a crime.'

Actually, it can be, in very narrow circumstances. However, I've never heard of a criminal prosecution. What happens more often in intellectual property cases is that the copyright holder files a civil suit and the parties settle out of court with an exchange of money, with the record sealed -- thus there is little case law. Since some of the people she may have plagiarized are her political opponents, it will be interesting to see if any of them sue. She would have to claim "fair use" which would be rather difficult since she did not attribute the sources.

Of course, they would have to claim "plagiarism," which would be rather difficult considering the weakness of the examples given, nothing more than a few snippets of description.

Clearly you didn't read the comparisons very carefully.

No, I did; they match. But as I said, they are nothing more than bits of description. Hardly a big deal.

She wasn't being mean about the 9/11 widows!! She wasn't talking about ALL the widows and survivors of the dead of 9/11. Just four particular widows. Those four have indeed politicized their status as 9/11 widows. That's their right. But it IS using their loss and the visibility it confers. If Coulter wants to squawk about that well, so what. People should at least, understand she was only talking about those particular four, not all of them. NO media clarified that, almost. The media made it sound as if she were indifferent to people's losses on 9/11 and that wasn't what she was saying at all.

She pitches wild, and falls off her chair a lot, but she is still worth reading. I would never, ever entrust her with public office, but she occasionally makes an interesting point.

She is for Israel. If she were not, I would hate her. "She hasn't been there but her parents have, and they loved it" she says. That goes a long way these days.

If you want to hate her, go ahead, she IS provacative, but you should at least read her column, so you know what you are hating.

You would hate her if she wasn't for Israel? What the?

Is that the new litmus test in political thought. When did Israel get an open ended pass. They have conducted espionage against the U.S. They have jailed nonviolent dissidents without trial and they have fired on women and children on countless occasions. Not to mention the billions of U.S. dollars in aid every year that keeps their military going.

Why should Israel get away with that garbage. The Holocaust? What a great way to honor millions of innocent dead souls. Claim devine right and behave like the people who killed those very souls.

I have no inherent dislike of Jews or of Israel. I just have this crazy notion that they should be held to the same standards as any other people or state.

Oh yea...Ann Coulter is psychotic and a very bad lawyer.
