Hillary's Idiocy

According to an article in the local rag, the Five Town Jewish Times, Hillary Clinton came out to the Five Towns for a meeting with the "veritable who's who of Jewish leaders that call the Five Towns home". She addressed many issues in the meeting, including vouchers (she opposes them), and the Gaza disengagement. But the part of the article that blew me away was this one:
Lester Henner, a lawrence resident and former president of Congregation Beth Sholom, asked Clinton why she voted against the appointment of John Roberts to the Supreme Court as Chief Justice of the United States, the position for which he was confirmed by the Senate last week.

Clinton responded that while Roberts is a very intelligent man, she was nevertheless uncomfortable with the "privileged life" that he has led, citing the fact that he had been in private schools his entire life, going from private school to Harvard and then on to his professional life. She said that she thought that Roberts lacked a certain sensitivity because he "never had to live with hard knocks".
Are you flipping kidding me? Hillary Clinton opposed Roberts's confirmation because he grew up "too privileged"??? Because he attended private schools his whole life???? Because life didn't throw him enough of what Hillary Clinton considers "hard knocks"???? Who the hell is Hillary Clinton to judge whether John Roberts had enough hard knocks thrown at him?? Infertility that led him and his wife to have to adopt their children doesn't qualify as a "hard knock"? And last I checked, Chelsea Clinton went to private school - I can't believe that her mother would limit her political future like that!!! In addition, whoever briefed Hillary before her meeting obviously neglected to mention to her that just about the whole group she was meeting with, along with the community they were representing, sends their kids to private school. So she basically risked the perception of tarring the whole room as "having a lack of sensitivity".

I guess this means that Hillary will confirm Harriet Miers - she, at least, went to public school!

I think you are overreacting. SUre, using just the words it seems hypocritical. In context, she is simply saying that due to Miers upbringing, she has little insight into the world of peoples whose lives may be affected by her decisions.

It's your perogative to think I am overreacting, anon. But substitute "born minority" for "born privileged" and there would be a huge outcry. Why? Because people don't choose which cradle they're born into. Roberts didn't, underprivileged minorities don't - and no one can say who will end up being sensitive to those who didn't grow up exactly like they did. In addition, Hillary Clinton did not exactly grow up in public housing. She went to Wellesley, for heavens' sakes!! And I didn't hear her advising people not to vote for John Kerry because of his priviliged upbringing. If she's going to have such an idiotic set of reasoning for not confirming Roberts, then at least she should be consistent, and only endorse for public office minority candidates who grew up impoverished. Which of course would exclude herself, her husband, and a very large majority of politicians on both sides of the political divide.

Cant stand her. This is just like her. Glad someone caught her showing her true colors.

Also, as a point, who did her husband nominate? While they went to public schools, they also went to Harvard Law, Columbia, Stanford... not exactly run of the mill college careers.

She voted against Roberts because she is a leftist.
She came up with the "too privileged" argument because
she is trying to come across as a moderate.

With all due respect to the Five Towns Jewish Times, the comment is so stupid I wouldn't be surprised if they are taking something out of context. I would point out that going to ivy league law school or college is not necessarily a sign of privileged upbringing.

For better or worse-Bill Clinton is the only recent President who grew up in either poor or lower middle class background.
Bushes-very wealthy
Reagan-solidly Middle Class
Carter-wealthy-peanut wholesaler-not a mere farmer.
Academically the Clintons and Carter were the brightest academically.
Hillary-was valedictorian of Wellsley.

Krum - I agree that it's not privileged upbringing, I meant more that they haven't had a life of hard knocks (easy to do other things once you've gone to them - not that they haven't earned it, but Roberts has earned his keep too)... Also as a note, it's not so easy to get into those schools if you are underprivileged.

And mycroft... the Bushes were always pretty good about their money. Laura Bush couldn't afford a wedding dress, so she took a white dress off the rack (old Reader's Digest). Nobody denies the Clintons have brains (Bill was a Rhodes scholar); we just question how people so smart could say/do such dumb things.

I am quite sure there was more to her comment - but that doesn't excuse her making it. Context can't change the fact that she said she didn't think he was fit for the job due to being born into the wrong cradle.

you are hearing it as an accusation , you are hearing it as negative name calling. she didnt deny hwr own good fortune, she simply stated that this person particular upbrining gave him limited persepective. thats not a bad thing.
you hear it jusst as bad as if she said he was born with 3 arms and we should discirminate against people who have 3 arms. When it really means that a person with 3 arms cant understand the limited life of a person with 2 arms.

Again, it is not the 5TJT that is at issue here. Clinton made an assertion that Roberts lacks sensitivity for the job due to his privileged upbringing. I think it is perfectly fair to take a politicians published comments at face value. This isn't a anti-Hillary diatribe - who said I don't like Hillary? I just found this statement of hers to be outrageous, and I'm calling it like I see it, as I tend to do on my blog.

She of Park Ridge, IL and graduate of Yale Law School. She is so in touch with the the little people that she will not allow interviewers or fans to make direct eye contact. Her view of Judaism comes from her friend and mentor, "rabbi" Michael Lerner. Outside of her crooked law dealings, she has never held a job with "real people". She just married her way up (and from her position of integrity Bill clinton was up) like John Kerry.

If her majesty doesn't like CJ Roberts' priviledged upbringing, I say "Let her EAT CAKE!"

Hillary has the right to lecture about the hazards of a privileged lifestyle. She has no sense of entitlement whatsoever. This is comical. She showes what a duplicitous disingenuous jerk she is.Ortho at least you don't give her a free pass

It's a stupid comment. Whether or not she made it in a context that lessens its stupidity (as Krum suggests) I can't say. Surely this wasn't the only media outlet that reported on her vote. What did the NYT report as her reason for voting against?

Note to RebelJew: You don't give Hillary enough credit. Her days of taking Jewish "instruction" from Michael Lerner are behind her, just like her days of kissing Suha Arafat. She's playing to a NY audience now and she's a good enough politician to do her homework. That's why she was in the Five Towns to begin with, no?

Come, on, Orthomom. It's very clear that this comment was taken out of context. I'm not suprised, though, that conservative Orthodox bloggers like yourself would be happy to jump on anything that portrays the wife of your nemesis as less than as virtuous as your precious GWB.

Her comment was indeed stupid. I went to an Ivy League school and grew up on welfare, so I know both sides. I grew up with folks on food stamps who had zero sensitivity to others like them, and went to college with people who went out of their way to consider people not as fortunate as they. To make such a blanket statement, especially when she herself didn't grow up poor, is ridiculous. Does that mean that she shouldn't be my senator because she didn't eat government cheese or use food stamps like I did?

It is the rank hypocrisy of white liberals like her that turned me against the Democratic party. Don't point out the spot in someone else's eye without taking the log out of your own [as another blogger pointed out, she and her own daughter went to private elite universities].

Um, hillary 2008, you are obviously not a regular reader of my blog, if that is your perception of my politics. And I'm not sure how you can put any context to a comment like Hillary's.

If you are so liberal, why do you only identify Hillary by her being her husbands wife??? Not very forward of you!

HIllary has been so great for the jewish community with no strings attached. most recently she was one ofr the forerunners in the push to have the united states settle the nazi gold train case, and she has taken on a big charge in the Zachary Baumel case, something most of the gvt and american jewry seem to care less about. Thats aside from her 100% voting record on israel and everything else she ghas been good for.

Last Thursday, sportsbook Senator Hillary Clinton appeared on CNBC and the subject turned to foreign debt and the trade deficit. Clinton made the incredibly ignorant suggestion that the reason foreigners own a lot of US debt is “because we’re putting out so much debt”, and when asked whether she would propose limiting the amount of US debt that foreigners could own, she said “not at this time”. They acknowledge that she’s probably just trying to get political gain out of stupid economic nationalist rhetoric, bet nfl but even the guy who might normally defend Hillary had a very hard time doing so. They explain the errors of Hillary’s thinking well enough that I don’t need to go through it again here. I encourage you to watch the above video. sportsbook I'll just say that her economic ideas are not just wrong, they're exceptionally dangerous. In the bigger picture, the sorts of economic views demonstrate the huge economic risk our country takes by electing a Democratic president. Despite the views of John Kerry, American people are actually quite intelligent, and I believe they will hold these sorts of views against the Democratic candidate if the http://www.enterbet.com Republicans are smart enough to press the issue: A vote for Democrats is a vote against the economy that is providing your job.
