Help Wanted

If there are any publicists out there, apparently a position has suddenly opened up over at Newsweek Magazine. The ad copy reads:

Description:
Newsweek Magazine seeks a PUBLICIST. You will be responsible for pitching stories to TV and radio producers, securing TV and radio appearances for reporters...You will also interact with top editors and counsel reporters for interviews, [and] promote breaking news on the internet.

Applicants must also have extensive experience with anonymous sources.

I am getting uncomfortable with the demonization and dismissal of news stories based on anonymous reports.

News depends on the quality of the reporter and his or her ability to uncover facts, and to know their sources as being reliable. One good anonymous source can sometimes get you ten times the story than 100 named sources who are afraid to say something that will be traced back to them.

I flubbed my line.

What I meant to say: My sources agree.

I actually agree. Anonymous sources are an important part of reporting. I just couldn't resist making the joke. Hey, don't forget who stuck up for Newsweek before it became in vogue...

M04: The first time I thought "hmm, coincidence" but the second time in three days I've gotta come out and ask you:
Are you an avid reader of Wonkette?

Michael: Isn't everybody?

Then you should at least credit her with the "hat tip" as is customary in the blogosphere (especially if you're going to use the same jokes she does!).

Uh, Michael, do you have any idea HOW MANY other blogs ran this story with exactly this joke? It's kind of the obvious joke to make...and not by any means a story exclusive to Wonkette. But um, thanks for the attempt at internet ettiquete advice, I guess...

I didn't mean to "come after you" (to quote A.T.) it was just odd seeing that you both had the same stuff twice in as many days, that's all.
Having heard a shiur on being "chosem piv/closing one's mouth" tonight, I guess I'll take the mussar and keep mine closed.
